Education & Outreach

LACE’s multi-pronged approach to educational programming ensures that diverse populations benefit from participatory experiences through creative expression, self-awareness, dialogue and understanding. LACE is perpetually finding ways to innovate, streamline, and maximize its education and outreach programs by partnering with like-minded and vital arts educators and organizations throughout Los Angeles.

RE-VISIONS OF LA - presented by ASAP (after school arts program)
LACE is located in the heart of Hollywood, an ideal place to observe and contemplate the collision of Los Angeles -- its intricate networks hum with activity as resources are transferred and spaces are reconstructed through use or development. ASAP’s monthly Re-Visions of LA drawing workshops build conversations around how our urban environments are constructed and what that means to our everyday lives. Each month a new group of artists spend Sunday afternoons at LACE providing free drawing classes. All levels and ages are welcome as we talk about Hollywood while drawing our surroundings. All workshops are free, and all materials are supplied.

ASAP (after school arts program)

ASAP is an arts education collective with a faculty and student population that is always in flux. Led by Michael Ano, Elana Melissa Hill, and Elizabeth Watkins, ASAP is motivated by the belief that “Arts education should be available to everyone.” They have organized series of adult, family and teen programs for LACE which meditate on the landscape and populace of Hollywood and its relationship to LACE, most famously the Re-Visions of LA program. www.asap-la.blogspot.com

SALON SERIES
The Salon Series offers participatory public programming for adults, sparking conversation about the work on view.  Through the series, LACE strives to foster community engagement with contemporary art on a deeper level.  Salon topics and activities range the full spectrum of contemporary art practice through round-table discussions, panels, demonstrations, workshops, video screenings, book readings, and performances.

GALLERY GUIDES
LACE’s Gallery Guides play a crucial role in helping audiences access and benefit from the challenging work that is presented. This group consists of culturally engaged students or recent graduates who are eager to interact with gallery visitors. Guides receive significant mentoring by key staff members, take part in artist-led walkthroughs, and attend gallery training sessions to learn skills that both help them serve as gallery guides to the public and prepare them for future careers in the arts.
