ReVISIONS of LA with Samuel Partal and Jonas Becker

September 2, 2012 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

ASAP @ LACE

After two successful years of inviting families to engage with our Hollywood surroundings via drop-in art classes with local artists, ReVISIONS of LA is coming to a close at LACE. Come celebrate in a final workshop, in which we will be making pinhole cameras  — in addition to providing instruction and supplies for drawing and collage to re-visit and re-imagine our neighborhood.  The workshop is free! Drop in anytime between 1-4PM to participate, literally, in building some perspective on the past two years of ReVISIONS of LA.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Samuel Partal is a photographer and video artist. He has recently exhibited in a solo show Ars Lumina at Sancho Gallery, as well as in Fast Forward 2 at the Santa Barbara Contemporary Art Forum, and Magmart a video art festival in Naples, Italy. He is the co-founder and co-director of Temple Ad Hoc Gallery, and head preparator at Annie Wharton Los Angeles. He lives and works in Los Angeles. For more information please visit: samuelpartal.net/studio/studio.html

Jonas Becker holds an MFA in Studio Art: Photography with an emphasis in Visual Studies at the University of California, Irvine and a BA in Architecture from Smith College. Her work has been exhibited internationally, most recently at LAXART, Monongelia Art Museum, UAG Gallery and was selected for a juried exhibition curated by Charlotte Cotton. Becker’s photographs and video installations reflect a collision of myths: tall tales about a site, stories about death, and myths about photography. In addition to her personal work, Becker continues to outreach as an educator and community activist. She is dedicated to making rigorous visual education accessible and instructs photography to both youth and university-level students, most recently at the University of California, Irvine.
