May 5, 2004 - August 8, 2004

A retrospective of the work of Yvonne Rainer, a dancer and choreographer who transformed the world of modern dance as well as one of the major independent filmmakers of the last thirty years. This retrospective has been developed by the Rosenwald Wolf Gallery of the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and is funded in part by the Pew Charitable Trust.

Yvonne Rainer: Radical Juxtapositions 1961 - 2002 consists of two major new digital video works; a recreation of an early performance piece; a treasure trove of vintage photographs, posters, documents, dance notations, manuscripts, etc., as well as an arrangement of video monitors running Rainer s five feature length films and early dance documentation. The exhibition is accompanied by a heavily illustrated catalogue with essays by Yvonne Rainer, Sally Banes, Carrie Lambert, and Noel Carroll.
